HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Red flags will be out on Lakeshore beaches through at least 8 p.m. Wednesday. Over the holiday weekend two men drowned, one in Saugatuck and one in Park Township.
National Weather Service meteorologists in Grand Rapids predict high waves, strong currents and dangerous swimming conditions through the evening of Sept. 8, 2021.
The waves will likely swamp piers at beaches from Mason to Van Buren counties, including Allegan, Ottawa and Muskegon parks. People should stay out of Lake Michigan and off the piers, according to forecasters.
Weathercasters predict possible thunderstorms with strong wind gusts, over 40 mph, this afternoon into the early evening, with a slight possibility of hail and brief tornadoes. Storms are expected to hit Muskegon around 2 p.m. and get to Grand Rapids and Lansing around 4 p.m. and Jackson close to 6 p.m.
