PARK TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – A 67-year-old man from the Lansing area lost his life in the waters of Lake Michigan on Saturday morning (Sept. 4, 2021).
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Brad Bennett, the department’s marine unit was dispatched at 11:15 AM to a private beach south of the Holland pier on a report of a man appearing to be struggling to swim. By the time deputies arrived on the scene, “Good Samaritans had already pulled the man out of the water and started CPR,” Bennett said in a department statement. “Paramedics from the Sheriff’s Office E-unit began extensive life-saving measures but were unsuccessful.
“The investigation shows that the 67-year-old man was swimming with his family in the water when he began to get pulled out by waves,” Bennett continued. “The man began to struggle and went underwater. Good Samaritans were able to locate the man in the water using paddle board and brought the man to the shore.”
The name of the man from Mason, Michigan wasn’t immediately disclosed as the incident remains under investigation.
