It’s nice to be held accountable.
By announcing on Monday (Aug. 30, 2021) this plan to take photos of scenes around Holland, it holds one accountable to you for not only taking the photos regularly, but it also makes one accountable to do the walking so that the photos can be taken … without cheating by hopping in the station vehicle and driving around!
Anyway, today’s postcard is from historic Pillar Church on the Hope College campus. It’s a good lead in to a stroll through the campus on this first day of classes for Academic 2021, and there is a photo gallery of images seen on this first day posted on this website.
It harkens back to the first day of classes for an 18-year-old freshman at the University of Detroit (not Mercy College) in August of 1976. The campus size near the junction of McNichols and Livernois is pretty comparable to that of Hope’s size, but the atmosphere was a little different. Walking from building to building for one class here and one class there was different, and the student center always seemed to beckon as an oasis. One wonders what the freshmen are thinking as they take their first classes in August of 2021 … 45 years later.
The step count today is around 4,300. Again, not 10,000, but we’re just beginning!
Thanks!
Gary
