HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Ottawa County Sheriff’s Capt. Jake Sparks identified the woman killed on westbound I-196 east of 84th Avenue in Zeeland Township early Sunday, Aug. 15, 2021.
He identified the victim as 36-year-old Valerie Batema of Kentwood.
Investigators believe she was a pedestrian in the area when she was struck by an unknown vehicle, that may have been silver.
Sheriff’s detectives are asking for help from the public to identify who may have been driving the vehicle that hit Valerie Batema, at about 1:30 Sunday morning.
So far, the driver of the vehicle has not come forward. Police hope that person would turn in himself or herself.
