ZEELAND TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – The search is on for a hit-and-run driver who apparently killed a woman near Zeeland’s eastern gateway during the overnight hours on Sunday (Aug. 15, 2021).
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Michael Hallmeyer, deputies and first responders were dispatched to Business 196 just east of 84th Avenue around 1:30 AM on a report of an woman lying in the roadway unresponsive. “She was found in the westbound lanes,” Hallmeyer said in a department statement. “Upon arrival, deputies discovered she had been struck by a vehicle, which had fled the scene. Resuscitation efforts by medical personnel were not successful, and detectives are working to identify the woman.”
Hallmeyer added that, based on evidence collected at the scene, that the suspect vehicle is silver in color, and “would most likely have heavy front-end damage and a cracked windshield.”
