HOLLAND (WTHC-AM/FM) — The diver who died in the Kalamazoo River on Wednesday, July 7, 2021, has been identified as Howell native Brian Anthony Trahey, 49. He worked for Great Lakes Engineering Group, a company founded by his wife, Amy owned.
A Grand Valley State University graduate (he played for the baseball team), Trahey and Amy had cofounded a company, according to his obituary. But his obituary also notes that he quit his job to get his eldest son to Detroit for autism therapy sessions.
In a Facebook post on Saturday, July 10, the company posted an official statement that said, in part, “Brian was a highly experienced diver and had performed over 1,000 dives on Michigan’s bridges and dams.”
In addition to his wife of 23 years, he is survived by two sons, Quinn and Ty, as well as extended family and friends.
Services are set for 9 a.m. July 16, at St. Mary’s Cathedral in downtown Lansing, followed by 10 a.m. Mass, with a private graveside service.
His family encouraged people to honor Brian Trahey’s life with a donation in his name to the Autism Alliance or Autism Society of Michigan.
