Leonard Van Bragt, age 84, passed away on Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at an area care center.
Leonard Jacob Van Bragt was baptized for the remission of his sins in 1971 and worshipped with Holland Church of Christ and later with Lakeshore Church of Christ. As a young man he played Santa w/o the suit to the children he knew. He liked to make goulash and Hungarian Sauerkraut and would not share that recipe til he married. He worked at Western Machine and Tool Works for about 34 years. He also liked working on cars. For years he would help with a fund raiser for Shults Lewis Children’s Home in Valparaiso, IN. He liked to take people out to eat. He loved the church and the song “There is a God”.
He was the son of Jacob and Janetta (Van Kuiken) Van Bragt and was preceded in death by his parent and siblings: Alexander (Miriam) Van Bragt, William (Lois) Van Bragt, Margaret (Duane) Allen, Josephine Van Bragt Cook, Jack Van Bragt, Robert Van Bragt, Theodore Van Bragt, Richard Van Bragt. A stepbrother, Dale Bruischart and sister-in-law, Sandra Mahaffey.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Sharon Van Bragt; brother, Donald (Judy) Van Bragt; stepbrother, Marsh (Helen) Bruischart; in-laws, Norman Mahaffey, Opal Van Bragt, Bonnie Van Bragt, Denise Van Bragt, Dawn Van Bragt; and a godson, Rick Granskog; and numerous nieces and nephews, and cousins.
A public grave side service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 28, 2020 at Pilgrim Home Cemetery with Pastor Mike Scholten officiating. The family is being served by Langeland-Sterenberg Funeral Home. To leave a condolence and more information, please visit www.langelandsterenberg.com.
