Henry Teune, 90, of Zeeland, passed away on Tuesday, October 27, 2020.
Henry was born in Chicago, Illinois, on January 13, 1930, to John and Minnie Teune. The Teune family moved to Hudsonville when Henry was 3 years old. They worked as muck farmers raising celery and onions, after working in the garbage business in Chicago. After high school Henry went to Calvin College for teacher training. When he graduated from Calvin he ended up in the U.S. Army during the Korean War where he was stationed in Georgia and Africa working in the Army Signal Corps.
Henry took his first teaching job at Cutlerville Christian School for one year. He then started teaching at Zeeland Christian School where he served out the rest of his teaching career. Even in retirement, Henry could be found at Zeeland Christian helping students with reading and other subjects.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Ruth, daughters: Jayne and Rick Seguin of Holland, Judy and Tom Ostrem of Wilmette, IL, grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Kathleen Ostrem, John Ostrem, Kurtis and Kristin De Witt(Tate, Nicklas), Eric De Witt; sisters: Margaret Teune of Holland, Florence Dahnke of Indiana.
A memorial service in honor of Henry Teune will be held at 1:00 pm, Friday, October 30, 2020, at Faith Reformed Church, 220 West Central Ave., Zeeland MI 49464. (PLEASE USE: Entrance D on the Southeast corner of the church building.) Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society.
