HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – A 14-year-old Chicago boy is facing a misdemeanor charge for allegedly spray-painting a memorial on the pier at Holland State Park for a friend who drowned this summer.
Prosecutors are recommending the teen not have anything on his criminal record if he goes through probation, serves community service, and pays fines and costs.
Ottawa County Sheriff’s Captain Mark Bennett says the teen admitted to spray painting part of the pier. ” There was a group that was kind of keeping vigil out there and a small number of those chose to spray paint some of the pier. We certainly understand the grieving process and the friends and family that have presumably lost a love one, but we just can’t allowed the property there to be defaced.” Bennett said.
The teen was friends with 17-year-old Christopher Mimis, who drowned on August 31st along with 14-year-old Vincent Green.
