GEORGETOWN TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – A moped driver in Jenison apparently disobeyed a rule of the road and ended up hospitalized on Saturday afternoon.
Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Christie Wendt didn’t immediately disclose any names as she and other first responders were dispatched to the intersection of Baldwin Street and 12th Avenue shortly after 1 PM. It was determined that the moped, operated by a 78-year-old Jenison man, had initially stopped for a red light at the intersection, but then proceeded south into the intersection against the light and into the path of an eastbound SUV, driven by a 55-year-old Hudsonville woman, who was traveling with the green light.
The injured moped driver was taken to Spectrum-Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids for treatment of undisclosed injuries, while the SUV motorist was not hurt. The man was also cited for “disobeying a red light,” according to Wendt, who added that the incident remains under investigation.
