GRAND RAPIDS, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Jul. 30, 2026) – A financial boost for non-motorized vehicles and pedestrians along the Lakeshore is coming from Lansing.
On Wednesday, the Michigan Department of Transportation announced the commitment of around $4.6 million in Transportation Alternatives Program grants for three projects in West Michigan. The Ottawa County Road Commission will receive $1.7 million for separated pathway construction in the Allendale segment of the Grand River Greenway Trail, while the Allegan County Road Commission is getting over $820,000 for building pedestrian and bicycle facilities near Pullman Elementary School as part of its Safe Routes to School project. More than $2 million will pay for wayfinding sign installation in a TAP Pilot active transportation signage effort in the overall MDOT Grand Region.
The grants come from federal transportation funds designated by Congress for state-approved projects, and there are three annual application cycles for securing these TAP grants.
