GRAND RAPIDS (WHTC-AM/FM) — The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality and the National Weather Service’s Grand Rapids office has issued an air quality alert for the following counties: Allegan, Ottawa, Muskegon, Kent, Mason, Oceana, Van Buren for Saturday, Aug. 4, 2018.
This means people can expect elevated levels of ozone and pollutants in the unhealthy range for sensitive groups.
People and businesses are askedto avoid activities which lead to ozone formation, such as refueling vehicles or topping off when refueling; using gasoline powered lawn equipment; and using charcoal lighter fluid.
People can help by choosing to travel via car pools or bike; delaying or combining errands; and using water based paints.
Active children and adults and those with respiratory diseases such as asthma are advised to avoid strenuous activities and prolonged outdoor exertion.

This air quality alert incudes the cities of Holland, Grand Haven, Muskegon, Jenison, Grand Rapids, Ludington, Hart, and South Haven.
