OLIVE TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Oct. 9, 2026) – Michigan State Police detectives will be handling matters following a fatal crash north of Zeeland on Thursday afternoon which involved an Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office patrol vehicle.
Shortly before 3 PM, a northbound pickup truck on 96th Avenue struck a northbound SUV after passing Tyler Street. It then veered over the center line and slammed into the southbound patrol vehicle, which had its lights and siren on in response to a separate personal injury crash on Blair Street at 124th Avenue.
The pickup driver succumbed at the scene from injuries sustained in the incident, while the SUV motorist was not hurt, and the sheriff’s deputy was taken to a “local hospital” in stable condition.
In accordance with standard protocol for serious crashes involving sheriff’s office vehicles, the state police will take over investigating the matter.
