ALLENDALE, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Sept. 24, 2026) – In the wake of a number of on- and off-campus incidents during the first four weeks of a new school year, officials with Grand Valley State University is reiterating security protocols.
In a joint letter issued this week to students and parents, the Allendale school’s police department and vice-president of student affairs outlined a series of immediate physical safety adjustments, including increased residential building access controls, enforced guest policies and quiet hours, and increased patrols around designated areas of concern across campus grounds.
This stems from a large brawl involving bats and a knife, over a dozen vehicle burglaries, an armed assault at a residential building, vandalism of a Flock surveillance unit, and a “Peeping Tom” arrest following an off-campus apartment unit break in, all coming since classes began at GVSU on August 31st.
