ALLEGAN, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Sept. 24, 2026) – It has been said that nothing spurs an entertainer’s marketing ability more than a premature passing. Notable performing artists who died relatively young, such as Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson, Buddy Holly and others, had a surge in interest of their works after their deaths.
This is true in last month’s passing of Dolly Parton at the age of 80, with her philanthropy getting as much or even more attention than her music or acting accomplishments. One lasting legacy is the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, which gifts books on a monthly basis, free of charge, to children from birth through age five.
This is done through financial support from local entities such as the Allegan County Community Foundation. Youth Services Manager Amanda Chappell says that over 3,500 Allegan County children are currently in the program.
Friday will be the first annual Give Like Dolly Day, set aside by the Dollywood Foundation to honor her legacy by remembering her song and acting role in the 1980 film “9 to 5.”
