OLIVE TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Aug. 12, 2026) – Two persons on a motorcycle suffered serious injuries after crashing into a fire truck on Tuesday evening in West Olive.
No names were disclosed by the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office, as first responders were dispatched to Tyler Street at 136th Avenue around 8:45 PM. That was where the westbound Olive Township fire truck, which was attempting to turn left, went into the path of the eastbound motorcycle. It was not disclosed whether the fire truck was responding to an emergency at the time.
A 34-year-old Wyoming man piloting the bike was flown to Corewell-Butterworth Hospital for treatment, while his passenger, a 17-year-old Grand Rapids man, was transported via ambulance. The two firefighters on the truck were not hurt.
It’s the second traffic incident involving a township fire truck over the last five days. This past Friday afternoon, a 25-year-old Hudsonville man was injured when he was struck by a Georgetown Township fire engine while attempting to cross 28th Avenue at Baldwin Street.
Both incidents are being investigated by the Michigan State Police, as is standard policy when such municipal vehicles are involved.
