Heavy Primary Election Day Slate Along Lakeshore, Across State on Tuesday

UNDATED (WHTC-AM/FM, Aug. 4, 2026) – Although many voters have already submitted ballots, either by absentee, or during a nine-day early voting period, which expired this past Sunday, many more may be heading to the polls on Tuesday for Primary Election Day in Michigan.

Headlining the statewide ballot are these contested races for party nominations:

• Governor: Jocelyn Benson & Chris Swanson (Democrat), John James & Perry Johnson (Republican) 
• US Senator: Abdul El-Sayed & Haley Stevens (Democrat)

Along the Lakeshore, these contested races for party nominations:

• 2^nd US House: Ben Ambrose, Jamie Hill & Clyde Welford (Democrat) 
• 3^rd US House: Ryan Cushman & Terri DeBoer (Republican) 
• 4^th US House: Diop Harris II & Sean McCann (Democrat), Bill Huizenga (I) and Phil Tanis (Republican) 
• 20^th State Senate: Curtis Clark, Kenny Clevenger & Chris Moratis (Republican)
• 30^th State Senate: Carol Glanville, Rickie Kreuter (Democrat) 
• 31^st State Senate: Keagan Host & Chris Kleinjans (Democrat), Kevin Maas, Michael Markey Jr. & John Wetzel (Republican) 
• 33^rd State Senate: Katie DeBoer, Joseph Fox, Gina Johnsen & Thomas Norton (Republican) 
• 39^th State House: Zachary Shinabargar & Kerry Tapper (Democrat), Bill Sage & Pauline Wendzel (I) (Republican) 
• 85^th State House: John O’Brien & Brad Slagh (I) (Republican)

• Park Township Public Safety Renewal (1.6 mill, 4 years) 
• Saugatuck Township Cemetery Renewal and Restoration (.22 mill, 4 years) 
• Saugatuck-Douglas District Library (.3 mill, 10 years) 
• Interurban Transit Authority Public Transportation (1 mil, 10 years) for Saugatuck, Saugatuck Township, Douglas & Fennville 
• Four proposals in Jamestown Township for fire, roads & library totaling 3.2 mills over 3-4 years
• Police & Fire proposals in Olive, Wright, Tallmadge, Chester, Dorr, Leighton, and Martin townships 
• Road proposals in Olive, Crockery, Casco, Ganges, Leighton, Overiser, Watson and Wayland townships 
• Library proposals in Blendon & Otsego townships
• Museum proposal in Spring Lake Township
• Senior Services proposal in Casco Township
• 18-mill non-homestead renewals for Allegan, Glenn, Hopkins, Martin, and Plainwell schools
