Mary J. Postma, age 81, passed away on December 21, 2020. She was preceded in death by her brother Ivan Postma and sister Betty Olin. She is survived by her siblings: Barb (Tim) Calvo of West Olive, Pat (Earl) Moore of Colorado, Jimmy (Ethel) Postma of Holland, Roger Postma of Holland; Many nieces and nephews; Special friend Nancy Barlow. Mary was born the second child of Ivan and Johanna Postma in Holland, Michigan. Her family moved to Zeeland in 1941 where she attended kindergarten, then moved back to Holland where she continued her education and graduated from Holland High School. After graduation, she worked at the Holland Corps before entering training. Mary’s first connection with the Salvation Army was at age 7 when she was invited to attend Sunday School. She was converted at VBS at the age of 7, and became very involved in the Corps. She learned to play an instrument and joined the band, including playing with a Cornet trio and attending many divisional events. She was also a member of a very active FOF group. Mary entered the School for Officer Training in 1959 – Great Heart Session – and was commissioned in 1960 when she was sent to her first appointment in Beatrice, Nebraska. Other appointments include Alliance, Nebraska, Ottawa, Illinois, Fergus Falls, Minnesota, and many more. Private services will be held for the family.
