FERRYSBURG, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – Two Muskegon women were injured in a four-vehicle pileup near the US-31 drawbridge that spans the Grand River on Thursday afternoon.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Mike VanDenBosch, first responders from several agencies were called to southbound US-31 just before the M-104 exit at 12:43 PM on a report of a semi colliding with three passenger vehicles. “Investigation and witness accounts showed that the semi truck, driven by a 50-year-old man from Muskegon, was attempting to enter US-31 southbound from the ramp just north of the drawbridge when he left his lane of travel and entered the right lane of US-31,” VanDenBosch said in a department statement. “His truck hit a southbound vehicle, driven by a 60-year-old woman from Muskegon, causing her to lose control and crash into the cement barrier that separates the northbound and southbound lanes.”
Two other vehicles were also involved, and the woman, along with a 32-year-old woman who was her passenger, “suffered moderate injuries,” according to VanDenBosch. They were taken to an area hospital for treatment. The semi driver, along with the other two motorists involved were not hurt. US-31 was closed for about two hours as a result of the crash.
VanDenBosch added that, “Alcohol and speed do not appear to be factors” as the incident remains under investigation.
