HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, May 13, 2026) – The Holland City Council may have held a mock meeting last Thursday afternoon, declaring the downtown streets dirty and needing scrubbing ahead of the Tulip Time Festival Kinderparade, but the governing panel takes up what is arguably its most important annual responsibility on Wednesday night.
A public hearing is slated ahead of an expected approval for an overall $282.9 million municipal budget for Fiscal 2027. The spending plan includes General Fund expenditures of $37.8 million, $300,000 more than projected revenues, necessitating a dip into reserves in order to balance the books.
City Manager Keith Van Beek isn’t too concerned about that, saying that a projected deficit in May usually turns out to be a surplus when the financial year ends next June 30th due to “prudent” handling of municipal finances.
Council is also expected to approve the 2027 Strategic Plan and Business Plan, a framework document meant to define goals city leadership looks to deliver on over the next 12 months.
The 6 PM Holland City Council meeting is in Chambers at Holland City Hall (270 S. River Ave.). An online link to the agenda and supporting documents is here.
