HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Sept. 19, 2024) – Holland’s Van Raalte Farm will be brought back to the 1860’s as the 15th annual Civil War Muster takes place this weekend.
On Saturday and Sunday, the Battle of Spotsylvania and the Battle of Yellow Tavern will be reenacted on the 160-acre grounds of the home of Union veteran Ben Van Raalte, the son of the Tulip City’s founder Albertus Van Raalte. Besides the two conflicts played out before seasoned practitioners, there will be battlefield medical scenarios, cavalry demonstrations, tours of the Van Raalte home, a Civil War-era Sunday morning church service, and performances by professional impressionists. Visitors are encouraged to take photos, with a contest for the best images taken.
Rick Veenhoven is a long-time organizer of this event.
The entire Van Raalte Farm Civil War Muster is free to the public, and a link to more information is here.
