DORR TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Sept. 3, 2024) – A homeowner near Dorr is undergoing treatment for a reported “mental crisis” after firing a weapon at two persons in a Tuesday night incident.
The term was used by Allegan County Sheriff’s Sergeant Brandon Berens as he and other first responders were dispatched to a residence in the area of 20th Street and 142nd Avenue just before 7 PM. The initial report claimed that the unnamed man was allegedly assaulted by the two persons as they entered the dwelling and attempted to take the man hostage, but he claimed that he was able to grab a gun and fired shots as the men.
Berens said that, after looking at the evidence at the scene, investigators concluded that the incident didn’t go as the purported victim claimed, and that he was suspected of having a “mental crisis.” The sergeant didn’t say if anyone was wounded or hospitalized as a result of the weapon being discharged, or if any arrests had been made, but only said that, “at this time, there is no threat to the general public.”
The incident remains under investigation.
