Laverne Van Klompenberg, age 90 of Zeeland went home to be with his Lord and Savior Wednesday, November 29, 2023.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Shirley; his children and grandchildren: Lyle and Barbara Van Klompenberg (Korde Van Klompenberg, Keith and Sarah Van Klompenberg, and Kris Van Klompenberg), Susan Wabeke (Nicholas and Sherri Wabeke, Todd Wabeke, Kyle and Joanna Wabeke), Cindy Poest (Kevin Poest, Henry Poest, Gary and Nicole Poest), Sally and Jeffery Koert (Jason and Tina Koert, Justin and Mindy Koert, Casie and Benjamin Woiwode, Isaac and Kayla Koert, and Bounleth and Sury Norinh); 31 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild; his sister Bonnie Achterhof; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Allen Elzinga, Earl and Marge Klein, Sandra and Mike De Pree, and Lloyd Schrotenboer.
Vern was preceded in death by his parents Bert and Winnie Van Klompenberg, his son-in-law Jim Wabeke, his sister Verna Elzinga, his parents-in-law Stanley and Albertha Klein his brothers-in-law Robert Achterhof, Jerome Klein, Stanley Klein Jr., Henry Klein, and his sister-in-law Rachel Klein Schrotenboer.
He retired from Herman Miller at age 55, then he did woodworking in his garage, and was a goffer for his son and son-in-law at Van Raaltes and Community Restaurant. He was a lifelong member of North Street Christian Reformed Church where he served as a deacon and elder. He enjoyed volunteering at Fishers of Men, The Bridge Youth Center, and His Harvest Stand.
Visitation will be 4-7 pm Monday, December 4, 2023, at North Street Christian Reformed Church, 20 East Main St, Zeeland and from 10-10:45 am Tuesday with the funeral service to follow at 11 am. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to The Bridge Youth Center or Faith Hospice. www.yntemafh.com
