Sheila Emily Buus, aged 101, peacefully passed away on September 30, 2023, in Tucson, AZ. She was a woman of great character, known for her unwavering faith, deep love for her family, and commitment to serving others.
Born on May 23, 1922, married to C. Oliver Buus on June 14, 1943. She was a graduate of Calvin College in Grand Rapids, MI, class of 1943, where she cultivated her love for knowledge and wisdom.
Throughout her life, Sheila found solace and strength in her faith, worshiping in the local churches of every city she called home. Her unwavering devotion to her husband, the late Reverend C. Oliver Buus, was evident in their shared ministry and the love they bestowed upon their congregations. Together they served in Austinville, IA; Bellflower, CA; Walker, MI; Highland IN; Edgerton MN; Evergreen Park, IL; Tucson AZ and interim pastor at several other churches during retirement.
As a loving mother, Sheila poured her heart and soul into raising her three sons, Richard (Dick), Michael (Mike), Carl (Mark), and her late daughter, Mary Beth (Buus) Van Eck. Sheila also bestowed love on 13 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Her nurturing spirit created a warm and loving home, where her children were instilled with values of compassion, kindness, and faith.
Sheila loved, and was loved by, three daughters-in-law Debby (Schelhaas) Buus; Linda (Baker) Buus; Sande (Smith) Buus, and a son-in-law, Cordell Van Eck
Sheila was predeceased by a brother Albert (Al) Drost and sister Josephine (Jo) (Drost) Geerdes
Sheila had a quick wit and never failed to bring a smile to the face of her loved ones. Sheila had a gentle and joyful demeanor, always ready with kind words and a smile. She found solace in the pages of books, immersing herself in literature, and challenging her mind with daily crossword puzzles. She was a happy camper embarking on countless adventures camping and fishing trips involving frying lots of fish and roasting many marshmallows.
Sheila Emily Buus will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her legacy of faith, love, and service will continue to inspire and guide us.
A special thanks from her family for the wonderful care she received at Cascades Assisted Living. The above-and-beyond care she received made her comment, “I’m being treated like Royalty.” Also, the family is very grateful for the hospice care she received from the staff of Casa De La Luz.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday October 3 at Rincon Mountain Presbyterian Church, 8445 E Tanque Verde Rd., Tucson AZ.
Funeral service and burial will be at 1:00 p.m. October 21 at Lakeshore Memorial Funeral Home, 11939 James St., Holland, MI. Visitation will be from 12:30pm until the time of the service at the funeral home on October 21.
