Amanda Klaasen Kowalczyk 39, unexpectedly went to be with our Lord on Thursday, May 18, 2023. We are still waiting for the cause of death.
Amanda was born on October 6, 1983, in Holland, to Doug and Sharon Klaasen. She attended West Ottawa Public Schools from Kindergarten-12th grade. After high school, she attended Aquinas College in Grand Rapids for two years, fell in love, and got married. Unfortunately, that was the end of College.
Amanda went to work for her dad, at Line-X. She worked as a secretary making appointments, and working on the books. Amanda enjoyed doing that and often talked about going back to school, but it didn’t happen.
She moved on to Speedway and worked as a Food Stewart, making sure there was food for customers when they came into the store. After four or five years of doing that, she was asked to begin training as a manager. Once she was trained, she began working at the gas station at the Y of River and 136th Ave. in Holland. She was still working there when she passed on to her next life. Amanda had a smile that would brighten a room. Interacting with her staff and customers was her favorite thing to do because there was a lot of laughter and teasing going back and forth.
Maddy and Sophia, her daughters, were so important to her. They were always doing something together. It might have been going to the store, playing games, or reading. Wherever Amanda went, the girls were always with her. She was an avid supporter of Maddy's gymnastics, attending practices and all competitions! This year the team went to state competition which took them to Ohio. It was so fun watching the interaction between Amanda and her girls.
There usually was a lot of laughter. She will be deeply missed by Maddy and Sophia.
Amanda was so excited to become an aunt to Gracie Kate. She was looking forward to loving her, spoiling her, and teaching her some of the things Uncle Craig taught the girls. Amanda shared these stories with the girls, so who knows what could happen. She was so proud of Craig, and always said he would be a great dad. Amanda loved Sarah too and was so happy to have a sister. She just wished the distance was closer, so they could spend more time together.
Amanda was always a people person and will be missed by many friends and family.
Amanda is survived by: her two daughters, Maddy and Sophia, her parents, Doug Klaasen and Sharon Klaasen,
and her honorary dad, Andy Dekker, who all live in Holland MI. She also leaves behind her brother, Craig Klaasen
and Sarah Davis, and niece, Gracie Kate, all in Gaylord MI. and several aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Amanda was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, Rudy and Phyllis Bilek, paternal grandparents,
Lloyd and Eleanor Klaasen, and Uncle Gerald Klaasen. Also preceding her are many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Amanda’s service will be held on June 8, 2023, at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church at 11 a.m. with visitation at the church one hour before the service.
A luncheon at the church will follow the service.
There will be a visitation at Lakeshore Memorial on June 7, 2023, from 6:00 p.m.- 9:00 p.m.
