HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – A little bit of the present with a lot of the future is on tap before the Holland City Council this evening.
Before the regularly-scheduled, bi-weekly work-study session, the panel will go behind closed doors with City Attorney Ron VanderVeen to discuss what City Manager Keith Van Beek said in a special meeting agenda, “settlement strategy regarding the Economy Inn v City of Holland where public disclosure of the strategy would have a negative effect on the City’s position.” The lawsuit, which goes back more than two years, stems from an ongoing dispute between the city and the owners of the former Blue Mill Inn over violations of the city’s lodging code, transgressions that led to the revocation of the Economy Inn’s business license this past October.
After the closed business meeting, the work-study session will be highlighted by an update from “Waterfront Holland” on the future of the former James DeYoung power plant site. Mayor Nancy DeBoer has been involved with that effort.
Council will also receive the findings of a first-ever “Waste Characterization Audit” that Van Been said “will be instrumental in determining future initiatives focused on increasing the City’s landfill diversion rate.”
The special City Council meeting at 5:30 PM, followed by the work-study session around 6:15 PM, will be held at Holland City Hall.
