HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) – Janelle Ortega, the 21-year-old passenger in the April 1 fatal crash on River Avenue, died from her injuries overnight, according to a statement released to media Monday evening by Holland Department of Public Safety officials.
Ortega, taken to Spectrum Butterworth Health in critical condition on the night of the crash, and died at 2:20 a.m. Monday. Friends had started a GoFundMe account to help with her medical bills.
The crash instantly killed William Montano, 34, of Holland, who had been driving the 1996 Honda Civic when the car veered off the road and into a utility pole near First Street.
The crash remains under investigation, according to police, who are hoping to question the occupants of a second vehicle that may have been nearby when the crash happened. Police don’t believe the second vehicle caused the crash, according to an earlier statement by investigators.
