The Tigers are opening their three-game series against the Red Sox with a 3-1 win. A Javier Baez two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth broke a 1-1 tie and helped lift the Tigers to the win. Michael Fulmer was credited with the victory after pitching a scoreless inning of relief. Gregory Soto earned his first save. Starter Matt Manning surrendered one run in six innings. Austin Davis was charged with the loss and J.D. Martinez hit a home run for the Red Sox, who fell to 1-3. Tyler Alexander goes to the mound for Detroit this afternoon against Boston’s Rich Hill.
