HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – Lakeshore Women for Peace (LWP) has been active in the Holland area for 11 years.
The organization has been sponsoring Peace and Justice events and programs for over a decade. Their next event will commemorate International Day of Peace. “Peace Day” is observed around the world each year since it was established in 1981 by a unanimous United Nations resolution. The day inspired the organization “to recommit to Peace above all differences.”
A program at Herrick District Library on September 18, will highlight the essential link between peace and justice, which is central to every religious tradition. Their featured speaker will be Dr. Tom Arendshorst, who will describe the Peace and Justice curriculum at Hope College. He will also share his own journey from eye surgeon to college professor—a journey that was inspired in part by his professional awareness of the inequality of access to good healthcare here in the USA.
In addition, several of Arendshorst’s Hope students will be on hand to share how the Peace and Justice curriculum has prepared them to assume roles as global citizens equipped with strategies for promoting a more peaceful and just world.
The program is free and will run from 7-8:30 p.m.
