PARK TWP., MI (WHTC) – The recovery effort for a 16-year-old Holland Christian High student lost in the waters of Lake Michigan since Sunday evening ended around the Noon Hour today.
Side sonar helped crews from the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department, Michigan State Police and the Muskegon County Sheriff’s Department locate the body of Riley Hoeksema in about 27 feet of water. He and another 16-year-old boy, reportedly identified as Levi Winkle, were in a craft with an inflatable hull north of Holland State Park when the vessel capsized, throwing the two teens into the water. Neither was wearing life jackets at the time. Winkle was rescued a short time later by a passing boater.
Hoeksema’s family scheduled a visitation for tomorrow evening at Christ Memorial Church, from 5 to 8 PM, with an 11 AM funeral slated for Friday, also at that Church.
