HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – Christ Memorial Church was filled with family and friends late this morning for the funeral service of 16-year-old Riley Hoeksema, the Holland Christian High student who perished on Father’s Day in Lake Michigan.
Results of an autopsy on the body of Riley Hoeksema, who was recovered three days after the Sunday evening incident in which he fell out of a vessel with an inflatable hull in waters north of Holland State Park, were still pending when the funeral took place. However, investigators told family members that they believe that the teen’s death was accidental in nature.
A fellow 16-year-old, Levi Winkle, was rescued by a passing boat shortly after the incident and attended the funeral.
