GRAND HAVEN TWP., MI (WHTC) – An Ottawa County sheriff’s deputy and a prisoner he was transporting to the county jail are recovering from minor injuries suffered when the deputy’s cruiser was struck by a Jeep southeast of Grand Haven. Sgt. Brian Buter of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department says Deputy Keith Biros was transporting the prisoner on 144th Avenue shortly after 4:30 Friday afternoon when a Jeep driven by 29-year-old Matthew Maxfield of Grand Haven pulled out of the River Haven mobile home park and into the path of the deputy’s car. Biros could not avoid the Maxfield vehicle and struck the Jeep on the driver’s side door. The cruiser ended in a lawn area of the mobile home park. Deputy Biros and the prisoner, whose name was not released, were taken to a local hospital as a precautionary measure. Maxfield wasn’t hurt but was ticketed for failing to yield.
