Holland Teen Ordered To Stand Trial In South Side Slaying

HOLLAND (WHTC) – A Holland teenager will stand trial in the shooting death of a 22-year-old Chicago-area man earlier this month at an apartment on the city’s south side. Seventeen-year-old Davon Walker was bound over to the Allegan County Circuit Court Thursday afternoon on manslaughter and felony firearms charges following an hourlong preliminary hearing in 58^th District Court. Walker is charged in the January 5^th shooting death of Derrick Ruff-Shingles at the Harbor Village Apartments on West 40^th Street. A witness to the shooting testified during the hearing she saw the suspect playing with a gun before the victim was shot. Investigators say there was no history of trouble between Walker and Ruff-Shingles. The suspect remains held in the Ottawa County Jail on a $200,000 bond.
