Gerard Moreno, age 28, of Holland, passed away Friday, January 28, 2022.
Gerard was born on February 26, 1993, in Holland, Michigan to Jose Chavez and Tracy Esparza. He attended Holland Public Schools his entire life. As a young child, it was evident that Gerard was intellectually gifted. He learned quickly and was truly beyond his years. When he was young he loved WWE Wrestling and playing video games. Gerard looked up to his big brother Angel with respect and love. Angel and Gerard enjoyed being outside and having fun. Gerard had an easy smile with a great sense of humor. He also played youth football with his father Joe Chavez at the helm coaching the team. In 6th grade, Gerard expressed interest in playing drums in the school band and was told no, as he had to take piano lessons before becoming a drummer. He did not take no for an answer and in the end, became a member of the Holland Public Schools Middle and High School bands. He taught himself how to read drum charts all on his own. As the smallest member of the drumline, he played the biggest base drum in the band. With age, he became more interested in gaming and at one point saved up for two X-Boxes. Gerard also started to place his focus on his education and being the best student that he possibly could be. He always had straight A grades, never anything less. In middle school, Gerard began taking advanced placement classes to prepare him for college. In high school, Gerard became a big brother to Aiden and Eli. He truly enjoyed his new role in the family and protected and loved them with all of his being. He truly was a good big brother. With his academic achievements, Gerard was given an academic scholarship to Western Michigan University and became a Bronco. He was majoring in criminal justice and computer science. Gerard discovered a love for helping others, especially his grandmother. Because of the current health pandemic and his heart to serve others, Gerard made a change of plans and decided to enter the health care field. He had recently started a job working at Holland Hospital. Most recently when Gerard had the time, he would watch football with his father Joe. That was the special bond the two shared. Gerard’s team was the Los Angeles Rams. Gerard was also his father’s only golfing partner. He was the most lovable, kind, and caring person that you could ever meet. Gerard was loved by all that knew him and he will truly be missed.
Gerard is survived by his parents, Jose and Tracy Chavez; siblings, Angel (Crystal Lyons) Moreno, Mark Moreno, Aiden Chavez, Elijah Chavez; grandmother, Dora Martinez; uncles and aunts, Chris (Jennifer) Martinez, Noel (Amanda) Stam and Andrea Martinez; girlfriend, Lydia Sanchez.
