10/26 Monday: Selfie Week at Outdoor Discovery Center- Yes, they actually want you to take a selfie! Take a picture of yourself with the places shown on ODC’s Facebook page. Post the selfie to their wall or Instagram page to be entered into this week’s contest. It’s kind of like a scavenger hunt only with social media! You have to get selfies in all 5 places to be eligible for a prize. Pictures must be posted to either of ODC’s pages by midnight on October 31 to qualify for a 1 year membership and/or ODCMG swag. 10/27 Tuesday: Desert Moon Painting Party at the Curragh Irish Pub- Uncork your creativity with Arts & Carafes Studio. An artist will lead you step-by-step through an acrylic painting while you sip your favorite beer or wine. No experience needed! They make it fun and easy to create a masterpiece all your own! 73 East Eighth Street, Holland; 6:30 – 9:30 PM; $35.
10/28 Wednesday: Farmers Market at Eighth Street Market Place- Buy fresh produce, flowers, plants, baked goods, meats cheeses, spices and more from over 50 vendors. Enjoy breakfast or lunch at our Food Court. Only open for three more Wednesdays this year! 150 West Eighth Street, Holland; 8am-2pm.
10/29 Thursday: Run For Your Life 5K- Be it in a spooky mask, on eight legs or dressed as a banana, get ready to hit the roads of Holland! Holland Free Health Clinic is proud to host the popular Run For Your Life 5K on October 29, 2015. Run 4 your Life was first held in 2008 to recognize the good work of Holland Free Health Clinic in the community and encourage participation in this worthy cause. Strollers, pets, walkers and runners of all levels are welcome! The event consists of a 5k run/walk beginning and ending at The Holland Free Health Clinic, 99 W 26th St. RFYL will be professionally timed by Michiana Timing. A Lil’Pun’kins mini run also will be held for children up to 8 years of age. Parents are welcome to accompany their Lil’Pun’kin or push them in strollers. Each participant will receive a medal. Costumes for Lil’Pun’kins will not be judged. Participants are encouraged to wear creative costumes in celebration of the holiday weekend. Awards will be given to the top 3 finishers of the event as well as for best costumes. *Costume judging will be held prior to the start of the Run at a specified judges table. 10/30 Friday: Trick or Treat in Downtown Zeeland- Trick or Treat at the Downtown businesses, featuring trick or treat bags, music, balloon animals, apple cider donut holes, and Halloween costume photos! 21 S. Elm Street, City Hall, Zeeland; 3-5pm; Free.
10/31 Saturday: Trick or Treat in Downtown Holland- Children are invited to dress up in their Halloween costumes to trick-or-treat at participating merchants! Participating merchants will have an orange balloon on their door. Happy Trick or Treating! 78 East Eighth Street, Holland; 10am-12pm.
11/1 Sunday: Hope College Family Weekend- The Family Weekend tradition is a great opportunity for the whole family to experience Hope and visit their student. In addition to a weekend full of planned events, families can get the full Hope experience by enjoying a meal at Phelps Dining Hall, purchasing a Flying Dutchmen sweatshirt at the Hope-Geneva Bookstore, and attending select classes and seminars with your student. Other weekend traditions include campus tours for siblings, chapel, athletic events and the annual Nykerk Cup Competition. The President’s Breakfast is another weekend highlight. Each year the Parents’ Council invites family members to hear from President John and Kelly Knapp as they share their insight as leaders and as parents of their own college students. The Family Anchors Award recipients are also recognized during the breakfast. 141 East 12th Street, Holland.
