HOLLAND, MI ( WHTC) – An Amtrak train struck a car this morning in Zeeland Township.
Ottawa County Sheriff’s were dispatched to 72nd Avenue and Chicago Drive this morning after the driver of a 2006 GMC Canyon, Robert Vandenberg, 49, of Ravenna called 911 to report that he was not injured.
According to Sgt. Steve Austin of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office, while stopped on the railroad tracks, the grade crossing gates activated and he could not clear the tracks. The Amtrack train approached traveling west bound and struck Vandenberg’s vehicle on the drivers side rear portion of the vehicle.
Vandenberg was the sole occupant in the vehicle and and was not injured.
The Amtrak train that was transporting 33 passengers was delayed for approximately one hour. No one on the train was injured.
