HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – A crash between an Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department patrol car and an SUV sent seven people to the hospital for treatment Saturday night. Everyone is expected to survive.
The driver Kegan Leeham, 18, of Zeeland was driving a Chevy Blazer transporting 3 other people between the ages of 16 and 18.
The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office Patrol car driven by Deputy Adam Hill with Deputy Andrew Riley in the front seat and was traveling westbound on Lake Michigan Drive in route to the Ottawa County Jail with an arrested subject.
According to Undersheriff Steve Kempker, the vehicle driven by Leeham was traveling northbound on 104th Avenue when he stopped for the stop sign and then proceeded to cross Lake Michigan Drive crossing in front of the patrol car, causing the crash.
All seven subjects were taken to local hospitals for treatment. Backseat passenger Jessica VanVoorst, 16, of Zeeland was pinned in the vehicle driven by Leeham and transported to Spectrum Hospital by Aeromed where she is listed in stable condition.
Leeham’s front seat passenger Kaitlyn Vandervest 16, of West Olive was transported to Spectrum where she is listed in stable condition. Austen Boerigten, 16, of West Olive was transported to Holland Hospital in good condition.
The deputies and arrested subject were transported to local hospitals and listed in good condition.
The accident has been turned over for the investigative purposes to the Michigan State Police.
