DETROIT (WHTC-AM/FM) – On Thursday night, the players didn’t want to play in Detroit. On Friday afternoon, the elements made sure that they didn’t play.
After postponing the scheduled contest the evening before, because players on both the Tigers and visiting Minnesota Twins wanted to make a statement on the current tensions stemming from the Jacob Blake shooting in Kenosha by refusing to take the field at Comerica Park, the two teams tried to play a pair of games in Detroit on Friday afternoon.
However, rain that was predicted to stay in the southeast Michigan region throughout much of Friday forced officials to call off the twin-bill. With more pleasant weather on tap for Saturday, the Tigers and Twins will now try to play an afternoon doubleheader at Comerica Park, with coverage at 12:45 PM on 99 7 and 1450 WHTC.
The other postponed contest in the scheduled four-game series would be made up as part of an afternoon doubleheader when Detroit plays the Twins in Minneapolis next Friday, Sept. 4 (1:45 PM broadcast WHTC).
