LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Federal unemployment benefits that have been available since the pandemic began are about to run out.
The extra $300 per week will end Saturday for over 400,000 Michigan residents, with some saying that the end to the federal benefit doesn’t mean much, since the state Unemployment Insurance Agency has been doing a subpar job of delivering state benefits, let alone the federal money.
Republican lawmakers had proposed ending the extra benefits earlier this year, but Governor Whitmer vetoed the measure.
