HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – It was a graduation for the students … and for the superintendent.
Dr. Brian Davis said farewell not only to the Class of 2021 during Holland High School’s 152nd Commencement Exercise outside of the Herringa Holland Civic Center Place on Tuesday (May 25, 2021), but also to his 13 years as the operational leader of the district, as he is retiring at the end of the current Academic Year.
“You see, it’s about passion, commitment, vision, perseverance and staying true to yourself,” Dr. Davis said in his remarks to the graduates, “being prepared for the unexpected, leading yourself and leading others. Graduates, whatever path you choose to take, follow your true north and stay true to yourself.”
Addressing the district and community, the outgoing school chief said, “It is our responsibility as a school district and a community to nurture and guide our students in their academic achievement and personal growth, so that they have the best opportunity to find success and joy in the future that none of us can predict. It’s about adapting to change, taking risks, and embracing the notion that pursuing life-long learning, with the support of others, exceeds the sole acquisition of a skill or speciality.”
WHTC will carry the West Ottawa High graduation exercise on Thursday (May 27) around 6:30 PM, and WYVN will carry the Saugatuck High graduation exercise that same night around 6 PM.
