HOUSTON, TX (WKZO AM/FM) – The Detroit Tigers made a winner out of manager A.J. Hinch in his return to Houston with a 6-2 triumph over the Astros Monday night.
Grayson Greiner homered and drove in three as Detroit snapped a four-game skid. Renato Nunez and Akil Baddoo also homered for the Tigers.
Casey Mize pitched seven shutout innings for his first major league win.
Zack Greinke took the loss. Michael Brantley and Carlos Correa homered in the Astros’ third straight loss.
Matthew Boyd gets the start for the Tigers in the second game of the three game series Tuesday night. The Astros counter with Jake Odorizzi.
Tigers first baseman/designated hitter Miguel Cabrera could be back on the field sooner rather than later. Cabrera was placed on the 10-day injured list Sunday with a biceps injury, which has been diagnosed as a mild strain.
Manager A.J. Hinch said the team does not feel like the issue is major, but he’s going to need some rest and rehab.
