LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – It does not appear Michigan will follow Indiana in pausing fuel taxes despite prices being high.
Republican state House Speaker Matt Hall of Richland has ruled out a vote on that unless it’s part of a larger deal that has replacement revenue for the state, as fuel taxes pay for road repairs.
Hall says they worked too hard last year to put a sustainable revenue formula for road repairs in place.
Republican nominee for governor John James wrote on X this week that Michigan has the highest Midwest gas prices and he supports suspending the state and federal gas tax immediately.
