Ottawa Co. Board Approves Documents with Fledgling Community Mental Health Authority

OLIVE TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Sept. 25, 2026) – Another step in releasing Community Mental Health of Ottawa County into its own separate entity was taken on Thursday.

Holland Democrat Doug Zylstra and his fellow county commissioners approved a Community Mental Health Authority Transition Agreement, along with an accompanying Promissory Note. It outlines the framework for a stable and responsible shift of the department to authority status, while the promissory note is a first in Michigan.

Now that these two documents are in place, the CMH Authority, according to Chief Executive Officer Dr. Michael Brashears, “is positioned to move forward with releasing additional details of the transition in the coming weeks.”
