HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Sept. 21, 2026) – The iconic symbol of Holland will stay open a little longer this season.
Parks Department officials announced last week that, due to the second-largest turnout of visitors in its history, Windmill Island Gardens will remain open for an additional weekend this fall. The home of the DeZwaan Windmill will be welcoming guests past the scheduled final event of “Touch a Truck” on October 3rd, for the weekend of October 9th through 11th, at a reduced non-resident admission of $5 per adult.
The park has had over 150,000 visitors so far in 2026, with another 10,000 or so expected over the next three weeks, bettered only by last year’s mark of more than 193,000. It’s a tribute to fine marketing and management, according to City Manager Keith Van Beek.
Staff will be planting tulip bulbs in October, ahead of the “Magic at the Mill” holiday light show set for between Thanksgiving and Christmas, when another 10,000 or so visitors are expected.
