LANSING, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Sept. 10, 2026) – Although not as prevalent as perhaps a couple of decades ago, awareness about cold case investigations is being spotlighted by the Michigan State Police.
As part of September being National Cold Case Month, the MSP on Wednesday unveiled a dedicated web page highlighting 11 current open investigations. They are sorted by region, and include a summary of what is believed to have occurred, as department officials say that they have roughly 200 of these open incidents at any given time.
It has been 20 years since a special cold case investigation into the 1979 murder of Hope College student Janet Chandler led to the arrests and subsequent conviction of six persons. Current Ottawa County Sheriff Eric DeBoer says that times have changed.
