HUDSONVILLE, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Aug. 21, 2026) – A common theme will be going through Mt. Pleasant and Lansing over the next two Saturdays.
The first of two nominating conventions from Michigan’s major political parties is at the Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort, as Republicans gather to formally lock in its slate of candidates for statewide elected offices. It’s a chance for the GOP to rally around the gubernatorial ticket of John James and Jay DeBoyer, along with US Senate hopeful Mike Rogers.
Term-limited state Senate Minority Whip Roger Victory already secured a preferred choice for the Michigan State University Board of Trustees earlier this spring.
Democrats will hold a similar session next Saturday at the Lansing Center, hoping to create the same unifying effort behind its gubernatorial ticket of Jocelyn Benson and Winnie Brinks, along with US Senate nominee Abdul Al-Sayed.
