ZEELAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Aug. 3, 2026) – After its long-time operational leader was laid to rest on Friday, Zeeland municipal officials return to work.
The City Council meets on Monday evening for the first time since last Monday’s death of Tim Klunder of melanoma at the age of 57. He had been the City Manager in Zeeland for nearly 25 years, and had been honored for his service three weeks before his passing. Assistant City Manager Kevin Plockmeyer was named Interim City Manager in June when Mr. Klunder took a medical leave of absence, and the governing panel may begin the process of selecting a permanent replacement as early as this business session.
Among the items on the agenda is a procedural request to endorse the Zeeland Historical Society as a non-profit organization eligible to obtain a charitable gaming license from the state. The museum wishes to conduct a raffle as part of a planned fundraiser this fall, and such an endorsement is a necessary prerequisite.
