CASCO TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Jul. 26, 2026) – One person was hospitalized after falling off of a lift and tumbling down a sand dune north of South Haven Saturday evening.
According to South Haven Area Emergency Services, first responders were dispatched to a residence off of B Avenue along the Lake Michigan shoreline, around 6:30 p.m.. The lift, which is on private property, brings people up and down the 100-foot-tall dune.
No details as to the circumstances which led the unnamed person to fall off of the lift were disclosed, as crews needed to place the victim onto a stokes stretcher, which had been lowered down by ropes to the bottom of the dune.
It took 10 staffers over an hour to lift the stretcher to the top, and the person was subsequently taken to an unnamed “area hospital” for treatment of undisclosed, non life-threatening injuries. No first responder was hurt.
It was the second time this month that SHAES crews had to lift a fallen person up from a steep embankment. On July 9 a cyclist lost control of his bicycle on the Kal-Haven Trail, slipped off the shoulder, and fell between 15 to 20 feet down. That bicyclist was also hospitalized with non life-threatening injuries.
