CHICAGO, IL (WHTC-AM/FM, Jul. 21, 2026) – The search is over involving the whereabouts of a 77-year-old Grand Haven man whose was considered an “endangered person,” but who was found safe nearly 200 miles away from where he had disappeared.
Last Thursday afternoon, the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office was notified that Dennis King was missing. He was a person afflicted with dementia, who was last seen on Monday, July 13, at Trinity Health Muskegon, where he had been taken for treatment. He apparently left on foot shortly after his arrival there, without his walker, which he needed to get around.
Mr. King was wearing black rimmed prescription glasses, a light blue or aqua colored zip up jacket, black pants, and white/black shoes. He was described as a Caucasian man with gray hair, standing 5-7 and weighing 215 pounds.
He had recently moved to Grand Haven, knowing nobody except his daughter, who reported him missing. She said that he didn’t have a cell phone, wouldn’t know how to use one, and had been without his medication since his disappearance.
On Tuesday, Sheriff’s Detective Captain Jake Sparks announced that King was located in the Chicagoland area by authorities. He is receiving medical treatment at an undisclosed location there, and efforts are ongoing to return him to the Lakeshore.
