SAUGATUCK, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Jun. 9, 2026) – Another Lakeshore municipality has approved a spending plan for the upcoming fiscal year.
On Monday night, the Saugatuck City Council unanimously endorsed a new budget, to be enacted at the first of July. The nearly $7.5 million financial blueprint will maintain the current tax rate at nearly 10 mills, which is 18 percent lower than 10 years ago due to Headlee rollbacks. According to City Manager Ryan Cummins, there will be enough financial reserves to address various infrastructure investments, staff wage increases, and other priorities established by the governing panel this past winter.
In addition, the Saugatuck council unanimously endorsed a liquor license request for the Wickwood Inn Bed and Breakfast (510 Butler St.), to be used only for overnight guests as part of regular meal services, with other restrictions in place. The local endorsement is a necessary step towards receiving a license from state Liquor Control Commission.
The Saugatuck City Council business session was in the second-floor meeting room of Saugatuck City Hall (102 Butler St.). An online link to the agenda and supporting documents is here.
